The following sections are guidelines for copying content from Versal. For this method we suggest you use Firefox since Firefox makes the options for downloading images much easier.
Downloading Content Components and Images
Text
Most gadgets give you the ability to add text. Below are details on how you can copy text from the Text gadget. You can use the method below to copy text from other gadgets. You can copy and paste content to any word processing application including:
- Google Docs
- Microsoft Word
- Office 365
- Most text editors
In general, to copy and paste text do the following:
- Select the text you would like to copy
- To copy: use Command+C on Mac or Control+C on Windows
- To paste in your new document use Command+C on Mac or Control+C on Windows
Another option:
- Select the text you would like to copy
- Right click on your mouse
- Select “copy”
- Right click in your new document and select “paste”
Please note, in most cases the following will apply when you copy content to another word processing application:
- Course titles, Lesson titles, and lesson headings should keep their current format
- Other text formatting such as lists, bold, italics should also keep their current format
Links
Note that links may not transfer to another word processor. For this reason you should make sure to copy any links you’ve added in to your courses. To view and copy links you’ve added to text do the following:
- Click the area surrounding the link to enter edit mode in the Text gadget
- Double click on the link
- A popup should display the existing link
- Copy and paste the link to your word processing document
Images
Downloading images from your Versal courses is easier when you use Firefox. Other browsers require that you inspect the element to access the image URL. This can be tricky, but with Firefox additional steps are not necessary:
- Locate the image you want to download
- Right click on the image and select "View Background Image"
- The image should appear in your browser (no additional context is displayed)
- Right click on the image and select "Save Image As..."
- Follow the prompts to save the file to your local computer
Right click on an image and select "View Background Image".
Right click on the image and select "Save Image As..." Follow the prompts to download to your computer.
Videos
Copying links to videos you embedded in courses varies by the provider that hosts the videos.
YouTube
- Right click on the video
- Select “Copy video URL”
- Paste the URL into a document to save for later use
To retrieve the YouTube video link, right click on the video and select "Copy video URL".
Vimeo
- Locate the video timeline bar
- Locate the Vimeo logo on the right side
- Click on the Vimeo logo
- You will be redirected to Vimeo
- Copy and paste the URL from the Browser’s Address bar
Wistia
Note that for Wistia, you will likely have all of the videos already in your Wistia library since videos are in private accounts:
- Right click on the Video
- Select “Copy link and thumbnail” and the embed code will be copied to your clipboard
- Paste the contents in a document
- Search for html?wvideo=
- The characters after the “=” are your Wistia video IDs
Note: For videos on Microsoft OneDrive and Google Drive, instructions are in the Microsoft OneDrive gadget, Google gadget, or Generic embed gadget details.
Quiz
For images in the Quiz gadget, follow the same instructions to download images from the Image gadget.
For questions and answers do the following:
- Locate the Quiz gadget and click on the “Edit” button
- Click into any area of text, either the Title, Question, or Answers
- Select all of the text and copy (Command+C on Mac, Control+C on Windows)
- Paste the text into a document (Command+V on Mac, Control+V on Windows)
PDFs
To download PDFs from your courses do the following:
- Go to the lesson that contains the PDF
- Locate the "Download" button at the top right corner of the PDF
- Click the "Download" button and the PDF should be downloaded to your computer
Click on the "download" button to download PDFs to your computer.
Categories gadget
If you have images in the Categories gadget, follow the download instructions for the image gadget.
To copy card and category text do the follwoing:
- Click on the “Edit” button
- Click on any of the text
- Now you can click anywhere in the text area and select copy
- Copy your text to a document
After clicking on text, you are able to edit the text. Copy the text from Cards or Categories, then paste the text into your new document.
Embed gadget
- Locate the gadget and click the “Edit” button
- The embed code should be visible in the field next to the “Edit” button
- Copy the embed code to a separate document
Click the Edit button on the Embed gadget, then select the embed code to copy to your new document.
G Suite gadget
- Locate the gadget and click the gear icon
- A properties window is displayed
- Locate the “Doc URL” field
- Copy and paste the contents of the “Doc URL” field to your document
Click the Edit button. Copy the text in the "Doc URL" field and paste to your new document.
OneDrive gadget
- Locate the gadget and click the gear icon
- A properties window is displayed
- Locate the “Specify embed code” field
- Copy and paste the contents of the “Specify embed code” field to your document
Click the Edit button on the OneDrive gadget. Select and copy all the embed code in the "Specify embed code" field. Paste the code to your new document.
Note: If you have used other gadgets from the “viewers” tab, the steps are similar to the G Suite and OneDrive instructions.
Exporting Learner Data
Learner Data (learner progress) can be downloaded on a course by course basis. To download a CSV that contains learner progress details do the following:
- Edit a course
- At the top left, above the Table of Contents, click the “Manage” tab
- Under “Delivery options”, select “Invite/Manage learners”
- At the top right, locate the “Invite learners” link
- Use the pulldown menu and select “Download CSV file”
- A CSV file will be downloaded to your computer
Survey Results
- Edit a course
- At the top left, above the Table of Contents, click the “Manage” tab
- Locate the “Reports” section
- Locate and click the “Survey Results” link
- Use the filter options to specify what you want to download
- At the top right, click the ‘Download CSV file
SCORM
Business and EDU customers have an option to download SCORM files. You can import files for learners to review. However, you will not be able to edit the content. If you need to edit the content we suggest you manually copy information out of Versal.
Exporting Courses
Download SCORM:
- Edit a course
- At the top left, above the Table of Contents, click the “Manage” tab
- Click the “Integrate with LMSs” link
- Locate and click on the “download SCORM package” button
- A SCORM file should be downloaded to your computer
